Set within the belly of this adorable bee brooch is a highly polished Blue John stone sourced from Castleton, Derbyshire. The sterling silver bee design has been further embellished by dazzling marcasite stones and garnet eyes, giving the piece a sophisticated sparkle.

Dimensions: 28mm x 20mm

This piece was created to celebrate House Style, a 2017 exhibition exploring five centuries of fashion and adornment at Chatsworth and inspired by Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire's own insect jewellery collection, given to her by the 11th Duke of Devonshire. Duchess Deborah's collection included moths, caterpillars, spiders, wasps, dragonflies, beetles, bees, butterflies and even a grasshopper. She would wear the brooches pinned to her shoulder, along necklines or across the front of a velvet waistcoat.

Every piece in this collection is a miniature work of art and is hand-crafted by expert Derbyshire jewellers, C W Sellors.

Our range of Blue John jewellery is precision set with the finest natural Blue John, a rare gemstone sourced from Castleton in Derbyshire, famous for its distinctive colour, ranging from soft lilac hues to bold purple and yellows. Please note that the individual stone you receive may vary in colour from the photograph due to the natural colouring of the Blue John
